Located in the coastal beach town of Zushi, Sidewinder is a wonderful little jazz kissa that’s perfect for a coffee break and some serious listening.
Opened in 2019 in what was previously an office space, it’s spare and bright, but with pristine sound. Owner Kato-san brought in his own Altec speakers and amp setup, and keep the volume at the exact perfect level. Mostly counter seats, with one small table for two facing the speakers. He has a notebook to browse and make requests, both LPs and CDs, mostly jazz but some pop and rock as well. I asked for Horace Silver’s live album ‘Doin’ The Thing’, and it sounded amazing.
Sidewinder is a great spot for a short jazz break if you are wandering around the coast in Kanagawa, with a ‘Zen Jazz’ menu of only coffee, tea or beer.
Open until 8pm weekdays and Sat, 5pm on Sundays.
Easy 5-min walk from either JR Zushi or Keikyu Zushi stations.
