Naru Restaurant Bar Yoyogi opened in 1966, and todayremains one of the major small live spots for jazz on the west side of Tokyo.
Just a few minutes walk from JR Yoyogi Station (and only about 15 mins south of JR Shinjuku Station South Exit), Naru in Yoyogi like its sister-branch Naru in Ochanomizu has not only live music nightly, but is open 1130-1400 for lunch. (The food is good at both branches).
Naru in Yoyogi does tend to feature a lot of groups with vocalists, so if you prefer more instrumental groups you may want to visit Naru Ochanomizu branch across town, which for me is one of Tokyo’s best intimate jazz clubs.
