News & Notes in November

Tokyo Jazz Cafes

There’s a lot going on in the Tokyo Jazz Site & OK Jazz universe this month. Tokyo Jazz Joints is up and going again as myself and Philip wander the back alleys around town, snapping pictures of old cafe/bars and drinking Guinness. We’ve visited Eagle, Meg, Someday and Vowz recently, with Jazz Room Stick, Impro and Hari-Neko coming up.

I’ve got some new joint profiles ready to go for the TJS Directory here as well, including one of my new local favorites near home in Yokohama, Bar First. I should have 6 new jazz joint profiles popping up on the site over the next few weeks.

The OK Jazz podcast was bruised but not beaten after getting a recent copyright complaint. I seem to have sorted out the problem and the next edition should drop on Monday 11/9, be ready for the usual great mix of jazz, world music and whatever else happens to be on my playlist.

And finally, a hearty お疲れ様 to Ito-san at Li-Po Shibuya, she had to close down shop and clean everything out before the building gets demolished. But she’ll reopen in early December just down the street from the old place so we hope to have the next It’s Time For Africa DJ night there right away. And last but not least, the next One Box Record Fair is Nov. 28th, best record event in town, don’t miss it.

Stay jazzy & groovy,

Mr. OK Jazz
