Jazz everywhere you go..

Walked home from Shinjuku tonight to pick up some groceries. Stopped in Maruman grocery store on the way, heard some swinging hard bop on the speakers in there. Saw the 90+ year old tobacco lady outside her shop and had a chat with her about the weather, then popped into the Kinokuniya-brothers’ liquor store for a bottle of beer. He had on what sounded like Bill Evans (a deity in Japan) on the radio. We chatted about the endless construction on the street in front his shop, then I left for the 5 mins walk home. Heard some groovy Hammond-organ sounds coming from the hip-hop dancer’s Okonomiyaki restaurant as I passed by. There is jazz everywhere in this city.
