Mr. OK Jazz's blog

Abdullah Ibrahim

First the bad news..my iPod has a cracked screen, so I can't do anything but press play and hope that it's not the 2-hour podcast on the banking crisis I mistakenly downloaded..

Change of the Century?

Well, not exactly Ornette-style revolution, but you'll notice some changes round here recently.

Message from "The Fox Hole"

Ayuri, one of the staff at "Haikara Tei" in Shinjuku sent me the following. I look forwrad to the new place and will get a new profile and web address up as soon I can.
Mr.OK Jazz

Spirits Rejoice..

Peter Brotzmann (saxes), Yagi Michiyo (koto) and Honda Tamaya (drums). Live at Aketa no Mise, Nishi-Ogikubo, Sunday Dec. 13th, 2009.

"Yume-Goto", very dreamlike..

Digital camera problems so only have this crappy photo left from an awesome gig. It was a shock to see the guys in Yume-Goto ("Dreamlike") play at Tokyo Main Dining in Shibuya.

Shinjuku 3-Chome Trad Jazz Festival, 11/14&15

Info all in Japanese but worth checking out. This is a really fun weekend if you dig New Orleans trad jazz.

Beautifully Random

This is outside the front window of the Eigakan jazz cafe. Monk would have approved.

Is the something "Music"?

Walked by the Haikara-Tei jazz bar last night, snapped a pic of the sign above the stairwell.

Sweet Combination

I am so curious to find out how this beer tastes..can anyone fill me in?
I took this photo in a lamb restaurant around the corner, the owner is apparently a big jazz fan..

Broomduster Kan

We love the Blues too here at Tokyo Jazz Site, and were knocked out when we saw that Broomduster Kan was still at it in in Inokashira-Park, Kichijoji, Tokyo. He does blues, country&western and jazz standards on his guitar and harmonica. Just thrilled to see him again in the park after a long while. My video didn't come out well so here's an older one to check out.

(Thanks to sing-or-die for the tip on Kan-san.)
